2025 Highlights

“Excellent structure and texture; everything comes together perfectly—so well-balanced, so full-bodied, yet so graceful ~ Decanter”

“Detail and depth dominate the bouquet of Mangot, which, above all, showcases its terroir and all the work that goes into it. Notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, peony, and mint come together in a complex blend led by freshness. This freshness is further embodied by distinct chalky undertones. The attack could also be described as chalky, but it clearly evokes freshness, tension, character, and liveliness! The silky texture somewhat tempers the terroir’s intensity, while the tannins offer a structured power that cannot, however, be completely neutralized… And why should it be? If it’s there, it has good reasons, and besides, it doesn’t bother anyone. It simply reminds us that a great wine takes time. That shouldn’t stop anyone from tasting it young, though, because it’s delicious! What a burst of energy!!!” (Yves Beck 2026)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2022 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable production, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Yann and Karl Todeschini have come to appreciate this family-owned estate in Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse: it comprises 34 hectares of contiguous vineyards across four types of terroir, dominated by clay-limestone soils. The wines are dense, powerful, and full-bodied; they absolutely must be aged or decanted two hours before serving.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (2026 guide) 95/100

About the wine:

Beautiful fresh aromas: blackcurrant leaf, hints of red cherry and iris, as well as dark chocolate. Supple and juicy, full-bodied, yet not at all heavy. Intense and very concentrated, with tannins that fill the mouth, but there is such freshness here, a real liveliness. Excellent structure and texture; nothing feels out of place—so balanced, so full-bodied, and yet so graceful. I love it, with its notes of blueberry and black cherry. Beautiful acidity and brilliance, yet with plenty of character. Delicious. A yield of 35 hl/ha. pH of 3.45. By brothers Karl and Yann Todeschini. 2029–2045

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2022 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

The vineyards, founded in 1951 by Jean Petit, comprise 37 hectares of contiguous Saint-Émilion Grand Cru vineyards on a terroir rich in asterias limestone (Mangot, an ancient cru first mentioned in 1510), and 16 hectares in Castillon (La Brande), meticulously managed since 1989 by Jean-Guy and Anne-Marie Todeschini, joined in 2008 by their sons Karl and Yann. The vineyard has been fully certified organic since 2020 and is in the process of converting to biodynamics.

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93-95/100 (Extraordinary wine)

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker – The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

Aromas of blackberries, cherries, and plums, intertwined with subtle notes of licorice and violet, herald the Château Mangot 2025, a medium-bodied to full-bodied wine that is complex and velvety, with intense, lively, and penetrating flavors. Mangot has enjoyed a remarkable run in recent years, but the 2025 has everything it takes to rank alongside the 2022 as the estate’s best vintage to date. It is a blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Rated estate (2022 guide) Recommended

About the estate:

First mentioned in 1546, Château Mangot has stood the test of time and is now a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru located in the commune of Saint-Étienne-de-Lisse, in the eastern part of the appellation. In 1952, Simone and Jean Petit purchased Mangot with the goal of restoring it to its former glory. Over the course of 30 years, they expanded the estate from 5 to 37 hectares. In 1989, their daughter and her husband, Anne-Marie and Jean-Guy Todeschini, took over, restructuring the vineyard and modernizing the facilities. In 2008, Karl and Yann, after completing their studies and internships in France and abroad, joined their parents to bring enthusiasm, precision, and a modern approach. What do these three generations have in common? A philosophy: to act in the simplest and most natural way possible, guided by sound, down-to-earth judgment. Integrated pest management was chosen to preserve the natural balance. In the winery, work is done on a plot-by-plot basis to fully express each of the estate’s 22 plots. The family also owns 25 hectares in Castillon, including Château le Brande.
