“It makes a strong impression with beautifully ripe grapes and an almost ‘Mediterranean’ character ~ Guide Hachette”
“From the very first whiff, the Pavie-Macquin signature is evident: deep, grounded, and intense; a full-bodied, heady aroma with a hint of menthol. The palate is dense, full, flavorful, and powerful, with a structure of acidity that is undoubtedly more pronounced than in recent vintages, a mid-palate that is slightly more refined, but a chalky texture of great beauty. The overall impression is distinguished, with a touch of roughness in the tannins, but it is above all mineral, lingering, and unique.” (Terre de vins 2022) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2018 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)
About the estate:
Pavie-Macquin, located right next to Troplong-Mondot, has just been awarded Premier Grand Cru Classé status. Stéphane Derenoncourt and Nicolas Thienpont know how to bring out the best in the terroir while giving it a modern twist, adapted to the tastes of today's consumers. Very full-bodied and fleshy, Pavie-Macquin wine gains in finesse and harmony with each new vintage, with the inimitable truffle flavor and mineral tension characteristic of the Pavie hillside.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated wine (2025 guide) 2 stars (Outstanding wine)
About wine:
This grand cru, Favorite the previous vintage, makes a compelling impression with beautifully ripe grapes in this 2021 vintage and an almost “Mediterranean” character, featuring aromas of licorice, black olives, and spices, complemented by the invigorating menthol note of the Cabernet Franc. The palate is beautifully structured, offering both finesse and depth, with refined tannins and a freshness with chalky undertones that perfectly define the wine’s framework. Definitely a wine for long-term aging. 2029–2040

Rated estate (2018 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the estate:
A new, understated reception room, made entirely of glass, allows visitors to enjoy a tasting with a breathtaking view of the village of Saint-Emilion. Pavie-Macquin retained its status as a premier grand cru classé in the latest Saint-Emilion classification in 2012. This is a fitting reward for the remarkable work carried out at the château by its manager, Nicolas Thienpont, and his advisor Stéphane Derenoncourt. Since the late 1990s, this duo has transformed the estate, drawing heavily on biodynamic principles (though not certified). Their hard work has been rewarded with a series of fantastic wines, combining magnificent fruit intensity with great depth on the palate. These wines stand out from their neighbors Pavie and Pavie Decesse with a style that is both more restrained and more supple, with deep but always very lively fruit. A sure bet well known to enthusiasts, Pavie-Macquin has not put a foot wrong in recent years.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 95/100
About wine:
Precise, floral, and fruity, the bouquet of Pavie Macquin reveals floral and chalky notes. While certainly more slender than usual, it is nonetheless fresh and subtle. A delicate, mouth-watering, and persistent wine, perfectly supported by its acidic structure, which, together with the tannins, highlights its vigor. A salty and lingering finish. 2026–2046
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2024 guide) 96/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About wine:
The nose is fruity, fresh, and elegant, offering depth (with perfect balance and precision) as well as clarity. It features notes of juicy blackberry, Sichuan pepper, and, more subtly, blueberry, combined with hints of star anise, fresh morello cherry, touches of fresh-roasted berries, subtle hints of cardamom and lily, as well as a subtle hint of terroir (local biotope), toast, and vanilla (very subtle). The palate is beautifully fresh, elegant, rich, juicy, pulpy, beautifully refined, delicate, and offers an ethereal power, breadth, depth, and a lovely brilliance. All in perfect balance and control. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of pulpy/juicy blackberry, bright/fresh blue berries, and, more subtly, juicy morello cherry, combined with hints of vanilla, toast, nutmeg, and blueberry, as well as delicate hints of herbal tea and subtle chocolate notes. The tannins are supple, elegant, and refined. A beautiful balance of freshness and acidity. Very nice length.
