“The first vintage produced in the new underground cellar, this wine is simply delicious, elegant, and has immense potential! ~ Guide Hachette”

"This 2022 vintage demonstrates, once again, the full potential of this elite cru situated on the limestone plateau, which has now earned its third Favorite four editions, following the 2020 and 2019 vintages. Crafted with finesse, it displays all the attributes of a truly great Saint-Émilion, centered on intense aromas of black fruit nuanced by delicate floral notes and a pure, full-bodied palate with subtle oak, underscored by beautiful freshness and perfectly refined tannins. Very long, dynamic, and of rare elegance, it is simply delicious, full of style, and with immense potential. Irresistible.” (Guide Hachette 2026) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Rated estate (2018 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the estate:

A new, minimalist tasting room, entirely made of glass, offers a breathtaking view of the village of Saint-Emilion. Pavie-Macquin retained its status as a Premier Grand Cru Classé in the latest Saint-Emilion classification of 2012. This well-deserved recognition celebrates the remarkable work carried out at the château by its manager, Nicolas Thienpont, and his consultant, Stéphane Derenoncourt. This duo has transformed the estate, drawing heavily on biodynamic principles (uncertified) since the late 1990s. A series of fantastic wines, combining magnificent fruit intensity with great depth on the palate, has crowned this groundwork. These wines stand out from their Pavie and Pavie Decesse counterparts with a texture that is both more restrained and more supple, a deep yet always very lively juice. A sure bet well known to enthusiasts, Pavie-Macquin has not put a foot wrong in recent years.

About the wine:

Blackcurrant, blueberries, crushed stone, chocolate, and intense minerality emerge from the 2022 Château Pavie Macquin. More full-bodied and incredibly concentrated, it offers a lively and vibrant palate, ripe, structured, and pronounced tannins, and a sumptuous finish. Made from the usual blend of 80% Merlot, 19% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, this captivating and powerful 2022 vintage is a wine for aging par excellence. Store it carefully for at least a decade if possible, and it will age gracefully for 40 years. 2035–2075

Wine rated (2024 guide) 98/100

About the wine:

The bouquet of Pavie Macquin immediately reveals a focus on subtlety, freshness, and precision. Add to that its complexity, as the nose alternates between ripeness, freshness, depth, and sweet spices—specifically notes of mint, raspberries, blackberries, and cocoa beans. On the palate, the wine does not necessarily rely on density; instead, it emphasizes its subtlety, precision, and freshness. Supported by powerful tannins, the wine boasts serene vigor and brilliance. A deep, savory, and persistent Pavie Macquin. 2028–2052
