“After 27 years at Yquem, Sandrine Garbay has released her first vintage at Guiraud. A delight!”
“Château Guiraud 2022 is magnificent, embodying the vintage’s ripe and powerful style. Candied orange, white flowers, peach, and hints of mint unfold here. This beauty captivates the palate with full-bodied richness, an opulent, complex, and harmonious mouthfeel, as well as a great freshness that lends it a lovely lightness. It is an exceptional Sauternes, to be enjoyed over the next two decades or so.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2025) - Delivery in a wooden case is available for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and selected shipping method)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide): 4 stars (Producers of the very highest quality, the pride of French viticulture)
About the estate:
The château is owned by four partners: Robert Peugeot, Xavier Planty (who manages the estate), Stephan von Neipperg, and Olivier Bernard. Certified organic since 2011 and home to a truly unique collection of Aquitaine white grape varieties (175 clones of Sauvignon and Sémillon), Guiraud leads the way in sustainable viticulture in the Sauternes region. Here, perfectly botrytized grapes are harvested with precision to produce two types of sweet wine. The grand vin, full of finesse and evolving fairly quickly in the bottle, and the Petit-Guiraud, deliberately less rich but perfect as an aperitif, as one can see in the very elegant restaurant-brasserie the estate has just opened. The dry Bordeaux G is less appealing, clean but too simple for the terroir.

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
This Sauternes Premier Cru Classé is now owned by four co-owners: Robert Peugeot, Olivier Bernard (Domaine de Chevalier), Stephan Von Neipperg (Château Canon-la-Gaffelière), and Xavier Planty. Under the skilled leadership of Xavier Planty, the wine has, for many vintages now, been a perfect example of a great modern Sauternes—rich and complex, very approachable from its early years, and having gained tremendous finesse and minerality. Viticulture here is meticulously managed; in fact, Guiraud was the first of the 1855 First Growths to receive organic certification, in 2011. With tremendous dedication, the estate manages to respect the natural development of noble rot. As for winemaking, it strictly avoids any chaptalization—as should be the case for all classified growths—a cause championed by Xavier Planty. The Château also produces, on unclassified Sauternes terroirs within the Bordeaux appellation, a significant volume of a dry white wine meant to be enjoyed in its prime youth.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2025 guide) 96/100
About the wine:
It exhibits a genuine fruity purity and great concentration, with flavors of dried pineapple, peach, and apricot. Very impressive and straightforward, it has moderate sweetness and a slight spicy note on the finish. Hints of licorice and pie crust complement this wonderful fruit. This wine is ready to drink now, but it will be even better in 5 or 6 years.

About the wine:
The 2022 Château Guiraud is magnificent, embodying the vintage’s ripe and powerful style. Candied orange, white flowers, peach, and subtle minty notes come to the fore here. This beauty captivates the palate with its full-bodied richness, an opulent, complex, and harmonious mouthfeel, as well as a refreshing crispness that lends it a lovely lightness. This is an exceptional Sauternes, best enjoyed over the next two decades or so. The blend consists of 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon, aged in barrels. 2025–2045
Yves Beck
Wine rated (2024 guide) 97/100
About the wine:
The bouquet of the 2022 Guiraud is full of depth, density, and complexity, featuring orange zest and earthy undertones complemented by floral and tropical notes (pineapple, fresh mango). On the palate, the wine is creamy and well-supported by a compact structure. Smooth yet mouth-watering, the wine exhibits a linear and serene profile. It needs time to unfold, while benefiting from an imposing, long finish owed to noble bitter notes that enhance its energy and freshness. A great wine that deserves patience. 2029–2060
Vert de Vin
Wine rated (2024 guide) 95-96/100 (Jonathan Choukroun Chicheportiche)
About the wine:
The nose is fresh, elegant, and complex, offering depth and just the right amount of intensity. It features notes of kumquat, candied mirabelle plum, and, more subtly, candied orange peel, combined with hints of yellow peach in syrup, delicate honeyed notes, candied orange zest, verbena, lemon blossom, and subtle hints of fresh hazelnut and gingerbread. The palate is beautifully mineral, fresh, and balanced, offering a fresh structure, suppleness, delicacy, a certain precision, lovely energy, a pleasant touch of sweetness, a crystalline quality in its definition, and a hint of sun-dried fruit, all handled with mastery (adding a touch of indulgence). It is all finesse, purity, and mastery. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of quince, mirabelle plums in syrup, and, more subtly, pear jam, combined with hints of peach blossom, verbena, subtle touches of sage, orange peel, and yellow berries, as well as hints of pastries, honey, and sweet spices. A lovely, subtle sweetness on the finish. There is almost a discreet tannic quality in the structure and the aromatic profile on the finish and in the aftertaste.

About the wine:
Sandrine Garaby’s first vintage blossoms the moment it’s poured into the glass, with notes of honeyed pineapple, custard, saffron, gingerbread, crème brûlée, and flowers filling the nose. The palate is even more delicious, with an energetic burst of succulent, sweet tropical fruits bathed in honey, and a saffron-tinged complexity that emerges on the finish. Best enjoyed between 2026 and 2055.
