Mercadier Vineyards
A former manager at Château Suduiraut, a Sauternes Premier Cru Classé, Philippe Mercadier took over Château Haut-Coustet in 1996 and founded Vignobles Philippe Mercadier. The estates that make up Vignobles Mercadier stretch from north to south across three of the appellation’s five communes. For several years now, it has been Paul, Philippe’s son, and his wife Emilie who have been managing the Vignobles Mercadier properties: Château Haut-Coustet, Château Pechon, Château Tuyttens, and Château de Veyres. That’s 50 hectares within the Sauternes appellation. Both see themselves as perhaps a little crazy, but they love and deeply believe in this wine and their products. It is this desire and passion that drive them. Each wine possesses its own unique character, a direct expression of its terroir. The winemaking couple preserves and strives to enhance the uniqueness of the wines, all of which are crafted and aged with deep love. This is the essential ingredient for creating pleasure and offering a fresh perspective on Sauternes. Sauternes is a magical wine, to be enjoyed on any occasion without a second thought.
