Charmes-Chambertin
The Charmes-Chambertin Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) is a Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits region of Côte-d’Or, limited exclusively to the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The Charmes-Chambertin appellation was recognized as a Grand Cru by decree on July 31, 1937. The production areas for the Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin appellations are the same, but it is the Charmes-Chambertin appellation that is usually claimed.

The Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru Route is located on the long slope stretching from Gevrey-Chambertin to Morey-Saint-Denis between the Lavaux and Morey valleys. This long hillside rests on hard rock: a few dozen centimeters of brown soil, composed of silt and gravelly scree in the upper part, and limestone with varying clay content on the slope. The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard, limited to 29 hectares, is planted at an altitude of 240 to 280 meters, with an east-facing exposure, and produces only 150,000 bottles per year.

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety. Their color is vivid, ranging from deep ruby to black cherry. On the palate, power, opulence, and elegance combine to create a full-bodied and complex wine, full of vitality and voluptuous texture, intended for at least 10 years of aging. While these sumptuous Grand Crus share a family spirit, subtle nuances set them apart. The excellence of the Charmes-Chambertin terroir is perfectly represented by estates such as Domaine Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot, and Domaine René Bouvier.
