Charmes-Chambertin
The Charmes-Chambertin appellation d'origine contrôlée is a Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Nuits region of Côte-d'Or, exclusively limited to the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin. The Charmes-Chambertin appellation was recognized as a Grand Cru by decree on July 31, 1937. The production areas for the Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin appellations are the same, but it is the Charmes-Chambertin appellation that is usually claimed.

The Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru route is located on the long slope that runs from Gevrey-Chambertin to Morey-Saint-Denis between the Lavaux and Morey valleys. This long hillside rests on hard rock: a few dozen centimeters of brown soil, derived from silt and gravelly scree on the upper part, and limestone with varying clay content on the slope. The Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru vineyard, limited to 29 hectares, is planted between 240 and 280 meters above sea level, with eastern exposure, and produces only 150,000 bottles per year.

Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru wines are red wines made exclusively from the Pinot Noir grape variety. They are red in color, ranging from dark ruby to black cherry. On the palate, power, opulence, and elegance combine to create a full-bodied and complex wine, full of sap and voluptuous flesh, destined to be aged for at least 10 years. While these sumptuous grands crus share a family spirit, there are nuances that distinguish them. The excellence of the Charmes-Chambertin terroir is perfectly represented by estates such as Domaine Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine Philippe Charlopin-Parizot, and Domaine René Bouvier.
