Bret Brothers - Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Terres de Vergisson 2016
90/100
Decanter
This cuvée comes from probably the most mineral village in the appellation. It stands out for its marked, almost vibrant mineral tension, which seems to ricochet off the protected rocky cirque of the Roches de Solutré and Vergisson. Great Vergisson!

Domaine rated (2021 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
The Bret brothers have become a benchmark in the Mâconnais thanks to their commitment to biodynamic viticulture. Most of the work in the vineyard is done by hand, apart from ploughing and spraying - by tractor or horse - thanks to the entire Bret Team. Today, La Souffrandière is the family's 11-hectare estate. Bret Brothers is the grape-buying business, producing micro-cuvées (8 of which are AB). The wines are always remarkably energetic, and need a little opening up to discover their potential.

About the domain :
This wine merchant was created in 2001 by the Bret brothers, who also own Domaine de la Soufrandière. They offer a wide range of quality wines from the Mâconnais and Beaujolais regions. The grapes are bought on the vine, harvested and vinified by the domaine's own team, using indigenous yeasts, and the vast majority are aged in 11-year-old Burgundy barrels: a wise choice to leave room for terroir and the vintage effect. 60% of the wines are organic in the 2018 vintage presented, and this is clearly specified on the highly detailed labels. In all, some 17 micro-cuvées are marketed each year. The selection below includes only the most well-balanced wines, four of which did not convince during our tasting. This heterogeneity observed in recent years leads us to remove the star.
