"A superb Chardonnay"

“A small 47-are plot harvested by hand, followed by winemaking and aging in oak barrels for 11 months, gives rise to this dazzling wine, with an intense bouquet of apricot, pine sap, and old-boy jam. On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, and generous, with a focus on ripe yellow fruits. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

It will bring out the best in the briny flavor and delicate flesh of fish, as well as in risottos made with seafood or mushrooms—whose creamy texture will be beautifully balanced by the wine’s crisp, lemony character—and fish quenelles. Saint-Véran pairs well with goat cheeses, Bleu de Bresse, Comté, Beaufort, and Gruyère.

About the wine:

A small 47-are plot harvested by hand, followed by winemaking and 11 months of aging in oak barrels, has produced this brilliantly radiant wine, with an intense bouquet of apricot, pine sap, and old-boy jam. On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, and generous, with ripe yellow fruit at its core.

About the estate:

Infected with the winemaking bug at a very young age while helping his parents in the vineyards, Guy Saumaize naturally gravitated toward a career as a winemaker; he also founded a renowned nursery that is frequented by many local producers. Annie, his wife, took over the reins after his passing in 2013. Since 2018, their son Guillaume has been at the helm of this 15-hectare estate, whose name he changed: Dom. des Maillettes became Dom. G. Saumaize.
