Francis Ford Coppola Winery

In 1973, a year after the success of the film "The Godfather," Francis Ford Coppola and his wife Eleanor purchased a property in Inglenook in the Rutherford region of California. At the time, this property did not include the castle or the vineyards along State Route 29, but only a large building and hillside vineyards.

It was not until 1995, following the success of the film "Dracula," that Francis Ford Coppola purchased the castle and surrounding vineyards. This acquisition convinced the director to seriously embark on the production of quality wines, notably by recruiting qualified personnel to manage the vineyard.

With the purchase of the château, Francis Ford Coppola inheriteda stock of 480,000 bottles of wine, labeled under the former owner's brand name. He decided to redesign the label and opted for a diamond shape. This marked the launch of the "Diamond Collection" range. It was a huge success, boosting the volume of production at Francis Ford Coppola Winery.

The Inglenook vineyard is one of the big names in Napa Valley, recognized as one of the best regions for Cabernet Sauvignon production in California. That's why Francis Ford Coppola recruited Philippe Bascaules, the operations manager at Château Margaux, in 2011. The goal of this move was to raise awareness of the Inglenook terroir by harvesting grapes earlier and reducing yields.
