Billecart-Salmon Champagne - Nicolas François Billecart Brut 2000

Champagne Billecart-Salmon - Nicolas François Billecart Brut 2000

Note: Gault Millau 18.5/20, RVF 16/20
"As delicious as ever, this 2000 continues to evolve with a complex bouquet of curry, roasted dried fruit, and brown butter. The palate is taut, refined, and very mineral, with a long finish. A little time in a decanter will make this a great wine to serve with food." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2011 - Gault Millau)

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2020 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)

About the estate:

This house in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, which is two centuries old and still family-owned, gained an international reputation in the 1990s thanks to its light and refined champagnes, particularly its rosé, its flagship wine. The grapes come mainly from the Épernay area and the Marne Valley, including the grands crus. The house owns very few vineyards of its own (around 12 hectares), but can rely on high-quality supply contracts. The entire range is refined, favoring harmony over power, with many nuances that can be found in each of the numerous cuvées. Billecart is now one of the great names in Champagne.

Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

A rare family-owned business, Billecart-Salmon is a thriving company. It owes its phenomenal success in recent years to its high-quality wines and a commercial policy focused on the high-end restaurant sector. An avid traveler, the dynamic Alexandre Bader, managing director of the company, has successfully established this Mareuil-sur-Aÿ brand, which produces around two million bottles, all over the world. Now equipped with new tools, the company can look to the future with confidence.
