Billecart-Salmon Champagne - Nicolas François Billecart Brut 2000

Champagne Billecart-Salmon - Nicolas François Billecart Brut 2000

Rating: Gault Millau 18.5/20, RVF 16/20
“As delicious as ever, this 2000 continues to evolve with a complex bouquet of curry, roasted dried fruits, and brown butter. On the palate, it is taut, refined, and very mineral, with a long finish. A brief decanting will transform it into a great table wine.” (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2011 - Gault Millau)

Rated estate (2020 guide): 5*Stars (Exceptional producers who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)

About the estate:

This Mareuil-sur-Aÿ-based house, which is over two centuries old and still family-owned, gained an international reputation in the 1990s thanks to its light and refined champagnes, particularly its rosé, its signature wine. The grapes come primarily from the Épernay region and the Marne Valley, notably from the grands crus. The house owns very few vineyards of its own (about a dozen hectares), but relies on high-quality supply contracts. The entire range is refined, prioritizing harmony over power, with many nuances evident in each of its numerous cuvées. Today, Billecart ranks among the greats of Champagne.

About the estate:

A rare example of a family-owned business, Billecart-Salmon is a thriving house. It owes its meteoric success in recent years to wines of exceptional quality and a sales strategy focused on high-end restaurants. An avid traveler, the dynamic Alexandre Bader, the company’s managing director, has successfully established this Mareuil-sur-Aÿ brand—which produces nearly two million bottles—around the world. Now equipped with new facilities, the company can look to the future with confidence.
