Gault & Millau

“A superb expression of the Marne Valley’s premier grape variety: a golden-yellow color with fine bubbles, an expressive and elegant nose featuring yellow fruit with hints of toast and vanilla, and a palate that is fresh on the attack, structured, dense, and persistent, with yellow fruit enhanced by spices.” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019) Fruity bubbles, full of roundness!

Wine rated (2019 guide) Favorite (Exceptional wine)

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the wine:

A superb expression of the Marne Valley’s premier grape variety: a golden-yellow color with fine bubbles, an expressive and elegant nose featuring yellow fruit accented by toasty and vanilla notes, and a palate that is fresh on the attack, structured, dense, and persistent, with yellow fruit enhanced by spices.

About the estate:

In 2000, Ludovic and Sandie Durdon took over the family estate in the Marne Valley, continuing a tradition spanning three generations. Managing 7.5 hectares, they began the transition to organic farming for 3 hectares of vineyards; certification was obtained in 2013 for the Chardonnay and in 2015 for the Pinots, with biodynamic certification following in 2023. Since 2021, a press and a new winery have enabled the estate to handle the entire winemaking process on-site, a task previously entrusted to the local cooperative.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Wine rated 16.5/20 (Very good)

Rated estate (2024 guide) Recommended (Recommended)

About the wine:

The color is crystal-clear, a light straw hue with pale gold highlights. The nose reveals notes of sourdough bread and brioche with fruit (orange, apple, lime, apricot) and subtle spices. The bubbles are crystal clear. Mineral and savory, the palate is tangy, rich, and fruity. The finish is long and complex. An elegant wine for an aperitif or with a meal.

About the estate:

The family-owned estate has just welcomed its fifth generation of winemakers, with Antoine, the owners’ son, in attendance. With vineyards located in Vincelles and Barzy, in the heart of the Marne Valley, the estate owns just over 6 hectares. The estate practices certified organic farming for its Chardonnay, and is currently in the process of obtaining certification for its two Pinot varieties. The wines are aged partly in barrels and vats, then left to mature in the cellar for many years. This estate offers excellent quality across its entire range and also welcomes you to its guesthouse to discover its wines and vineyards. Of note is the arrival of a single-vineyard cuvée, “Les Sablons.”
