" Favorite this Organic grown Meunier, with its beautiful character!"

"Harvested in 2019 on the Sablons plot, this Meunier has a delicate nose, divided between acacia, lemon, and white fruits. Its vinification (malolactic fermentation blocked) and lack of dosage enhance its freshness in harmony with citrus aromas. Marked by a hint of bitterness on the finish, it has all the characteristics of a brut nature, with a distinguished side." (Le Guide Hachette 2024).

About wine:

Harvested in 2019 on the Sablons plot, this Meunier has a delicate nose, divided between acacia, lemon, and white fruits. Its vinification (malolactic fermentation blocked) and lack of dosage enhance its freshness in harmony with citrus aromas. Marked by a hint of bitterness on the finish, it has all the characteristics of a brut nature, with a distinguished side.

About the estate:

In 2000, Ludovic and Sandie Durdon took over from three generations on the family estate located in the Marne Valley. At the head of 7.5 hectares, they began the organic conversion of 3 hectares of vines; certification was obtained in 2013 for Chardonnay and in 2015 for Pinots, with biodynamic certification in 2023. Since 2021, a press and a new winery have enabled the entire winemaking process, previously entrusted to the local cooperative, to be carried out on the estate.

About the estate:

The family estate has just welcomed the fifth generation of winegrowers with the arrival of Antoine, the owners' son. With vineyards located in Vincelles and Barzy, in the heart of the Marne Valley, the estate covers just over 6 hectares. It practices certified organic farming for Chardonnay and is in the process of obtaining certification for the two Pinots. The wines are aged partly in barrels and partly in vats, then left to mature in the cellar for many years. This estate offers excellent quality across its entire range and also welcomes visitors to its gîte, where they can discover its wines and vineyards. Of particular note is the arrival of a single vineyard cuvée, "Les Sablons."

I expected better for the price, the acidity at the end was too strong for my taste.

Light color. Very fine bubbles. After a clean attack, the lively and airy palate displays a certain finesse with moderately acidic yellow fruits, complemented by subtle notes of lime blossom and a hint of smoke. Fleeting iodine finish. High price. In the same Pure Meunier category, I prefer the less expensive Brut Nature cuvée from Champagnes Moutardier, which is more tender, sapid, and refined. Tasted at 10°C with friends, accompanied by Fine de Claire Marennes Oléron oysters au gratin and Saint-Jacques de Saint Brieu scallops pan-fried in champagne, to enjoy it at the start of the season. Good, but nothing more than that. Rating: 3.8.
