“A superb champagne with character, lively and crisp”
“A spring meadow with scents of buttercups, dandelion flowers, and alfalfa, evolving into honeyed notes (St. John’s wort, elderflower) that blend with the first stone fruits (Napoleon cherries, apricots, rhubarb). This duality between vegetal freshness and the crispness of fruit is found in a round, indulgent wine with a full-bodied, fleshy texture. The bubbles have just the right energy and lead to a refined, creamy, and charming finish.” (Gault & Millau 2025).

Wine rated (2026 guide) 93/100
Rated estate (2025 guide) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers, those representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and around the world)
About the estate:
Gosset remains a small house in the world of Champagne giants, selling an average of one million bottles annually. At the helm of the technical team is a dynamic duo—Odilon de Varine and Gabrielle Malagu—crafting a range that stays true to its core principles: freshness, liveliness, and minerality. To stay the course despite recent climate changes and the grapes’ increased ripeness, the house now favors Chardonnay in its blends, with a reduced proportion of Pinot Noir to maintain the consistent final flavor. Thanks to its consistency and assertive style, the range—which offers numerous cuvées, including some made from long-aged wines—deserved to be rewarded with an additional star. The winery has reached the pinnacle of our rankings.

Rated estate (2025 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About the estate:
“The oldest house in Champagne” was founded in 1584, before the region’s wine became sparkling, by Pierre Gosset, alderman of Aÿ and vineyard owner. At the time, the wines from this town, often red, rivaled those of Beaune at court. Thirteen generations have succeeded Pierre Gosset. Now based in Épernay, the company has been part of the Renaud-Cointreau group since 1993. Gosset champagnes do not undergo malolactic fermentation. In 2016, Odilon de Varine, deputy director and oenologist, succeeded Jean-Pierre Mareigner. He was joined the following year by Gabrielle Malagu, to whom he entrusted joint responsibility for the cellar at the end of 2022.

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the wine:
The same goes for the Blanc de Blancs, which has a distinct character, with a lively, slender structure. The subtle dosage would benefit from blending in more.
About the estate:
The oldest Champagne house, founded in 1584, has been owned by the Renaud-Cointreau Group since 1994. Now under the leadership of Odilon de Varine and Gabrielle Bouby-Malagu in the cellar, it is distinguished by its consistent production of wines that are intense and powerful, yet characterized by a beautiful tension that balances them and allows for harmonious aging.
James Suckling
Wine rated 93/100
About the wine:
A very pure and pristine nose offering a wealth of white flowers, sweet, fresh, and yeasty notes, as well as a fruity heart ranging from lemon to apple and pear. The palate is bold; the acidity is powerful and bursts through rich, ripe flavors of lemon and nectarine, with soft notes of toasted nuts lingering on the finish. Long, bold, and magnificent. Drink now or within three years.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100
About the wine:
The NV Champagne Grand Blanc de Blancs Brut has a pale silver-to-yellow hue and reveals notes of mint, white grapefruit, citrus blossoms, pastry crust, and fresh pear. Medium-bodied, it offers an elegant and refined mousse, complemented by refreshing acidity and a graceful, mouth-watering finish. It is already excellent upon release and should remain enjoyable for the next 8 to 10 years.

Excellent value for money in its category, on par with the much more expensive prestige vintages from the major houses

The biggest disappointment of the year—the nose is subtle and lacks aroma. The palate is harsh, a mix of acidity and bitterness. No Gosset has ever disappointed me this much.

I gave it to one of my sons—he’s a fan and was thrilled! My father used to drink nothing but Gosset, and so do I! By the way, I turned 79 yesterday!

Too much effervescence. Reminds me of an Austrian wine.

A bit disappointing; the acidity is too pronounced, masking the delicate aromas

Review by Mr. HERVE C. Posted on 12/23/2018
Extremely and overly effervescent, For a blanc de blancs, it’s too harsh—the brioche and butter aromas that are so pleasant in blanc de blancs don’t balance it out. Disappointing value for the price!
