Gosset remains a small house in the world of Champagne’s giants, selling an average of one million bottles each year. At the helm of the technical team is a dynamic duo—Odilon de Varine and Gabrielle Malagu—who oversee a lineup that stays true to its core principles: freshness, liveliness, and minerality. To stay the course despite recent climate changes and the grapes’ increased ripeness, the house now favors Chardonnay in its blends, with a reduced proportion of Pinot Noir to maintain a consistent final flavor. Thanks to its consistency and distinctive style—the range offers numerous cuvées, including some made from extensively aged wines—it deserved to be awarded an additional star. About the estate:

“The oldest house in Champagne” was founded in 1584—before the region’s wine became sparkling—by Pierre Gosset, a councilman of Aÿ and vineyard owner. At the time, the wines from this town—often red—competed at court with those from Beaune. Thirteen generations have succeeded Pierre Gosset. Now based in Épernay, the company has been part of the Renaud-Cointreau Group since 1993. Gosset champagnes do not undergo malolactic fermentation. In 2016, Odilon de Varine, deputy director and oenologist, succeeded Jean-Pierre Mareigner. He was joined the following year by Gabrielle Malagu, to whom he entrusted joint responsibility for the cellar at the end of 2022.

A spring meadow with its scents of buttercups, dandelion flowers, and alfalfa, evolving into honeyed aromas (St. John’s wort, elderflower) that blend with the first stone fruits (Napoleon cherries, apricots, rhubarb). This duality between the freshness of the vegetation and the crispness of the fruit is reflected in a round, indulgent wine with a full-bodied, fleshy texture. The bubbles have just the right energy and lead to a refined, creamy, and charming finish.

The NV Champagne Grand Blanc de Blancs Brut has a pale silvery-yellow color and reveals notes of mint, white grapefruit, citrus blossoms, pie crust, and fresh pear. Medium-bodied, it offers an elegant and refined mousse, complemented by refreshing acidity and a graceful, mouthwatering finish. It is already excellent upon release and should continue to be enjoyable for the next 8 to 10 years.
