About the estate:
Pierre and Sophie Larmandier, along with their son Arthur, have been farming 16 hectares using biodynamic methods for over twenty years. Few wineries, across all regions, can boast such consistency at this high level. The lineup is remarkably well-crafted and offered at reasonable prices. Among the estate’s legendary wines, “Vieille Vigne du Levant” is unquestionably a benchmark for the Côte des Blancs. The style features creamy textures where balance is a central focus. Within this understated elegance, one often finds the very best the Côte des Blancs has to offer. A highly sought-after estate.

About the wine:
The latest release of Larmandier-Bernier’s Blanc de Blancs Latitude Extra-Brut NV is from the 2021 vintage (60%), aged entirely in oak barrels and supplemented by a perpetual blend dating back to 2004. The vineyards located on richer soils, primarily facing east and southeast, produce rounder, fuller-bodied wines, and this is also true of the 2021 vintage. Displaying aromas of pear, acacia, and pastries, it is fuller-bodied than the Longitude, with ripe yet lively acidity and a velvety mousse.

About the estate:
Although his family is originally from Cramant, Pierre Larmandier has settled in Vertus and produces wine from plots spread across the grands crus of the Côte des Blancs, in Cramant (the sumptuous Vieille Vigne du Levant cuvée), Chouilly, Oger, and Avize. The result has been a magnificent Les Chemins d’Avize since 2009. Stainless steel tanks and barrels have given way to oak casks, in which the winemaking process takes place without the addition of yeast. The lineup showcases the result of sustained effort in the vineyard (certified biodynamic farming).

I'm revising my review—apparently, the first bottle had a problem. This one is a pleasure to drink, even if the bubbles seem a little too fine and lack density. The wine was well-received by all the guests.

A fairly complex champagne with citrus notes, lively yet delicate bubbles, and no harshness on the palate. Still, it won't leave a lasting impression on me.

I preferred the Latitude over the Longitude: it's more "aggressive," has more range, and offers better grip than the Longitude. Both are excellent choices.
