Cachapoal Valley

Cachapoal Valley
Located in the O'Higgins Region, within Chile's Central Valley south of Santiago, the Cachapoal Valley appellation was officially recognized in 1994 under Chile's system of designations of origin. It is one of the country's most renowned wine-growing valleys.

The Cachapoal Valley’s vineyard plantings are largely dominated by red grape varieties, with Cabernet Sauvignon—considered the appellation’s signature variety—predominant. Carmenère, which has become one of the hallmarks of Chilean winemaking, is also grown there, along with Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. White grape varieties, though less common, include Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, which are primarily grown in the cooler areas.

The terroir of the Cachapoal Valley is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers, tempered by elevation and oceanic influences in the western areas. The soils are varied, consisting of a mix of alluvial deposits, gravel, sand, and clay from the rivers flowing down from the Andes. This combination of sunny days, cool nights, and well-drained soils promotes slow, balanced ripening of the grapes, resulting in concentrated, structured, and elegant wines marked by aromas of ripe black fruits, spices, and a lovely natural freshness.
