“A must-try from La Manchuela—savour this unique wine, crafted from a single-hectare plot of old Bobal vines grown organically!”

“A striking Bobal, with mineral notes, white pepper, dried herbs, and an abundance of fresh black cherries, as well as a reductive, meaty note that reminds me of lard. Pure and lively on the palate, medium-bodied to full-bodied, with a robust Bobal structure—solid and similar to Nebbiolo, but meatier. Fresh and pure, with no woody tannins. It is very vibrant and succulent, with a long, crisp finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink from 2026.” (James Suckling 2025)

Wine rated (2026 guide) 96+/100 (Extraordinary wine)

About the wine:

The 2024 Pino comes from a plot with very high limestone content and displays a serious character and profile, but this year it also exhibits elegance and fragrance. It features notes of Mediterranean herbs and is clean and precise, with a medium-bodied palate, very fine tannins, restrained ripeness, and only 12.5% alcohol (along with the 2021 and 2019 vintages, this is one of three vintages with such a low alcohol content, all three having been harvested early). It was fermented whole-cluster in 4,500-liter oak vats and aged in a 3,500-liter oval oak cask for 10 months. It is very chalky and savory, reflecting the influence of limestone in the soils. This is undoubtedly the best vintage for Pino and for Juan António Ponce, the one that best reflects the character of the terroir. It is a more refined Pino. 2026–2036

This is a surprising wine that really needs to be opened well in advance. For me, it took a full day before it started to become interesting, and it also had a very slight cork taint.
