“Brilliant, vibrant, magnificent, and alluring—the tasters are unanimous: a sublime Barolo to be opened this year or cellared for another 15 years to reveal all its secrets.”

“The 2019 Barolo is brilliant and radiant in the glass, with a beautiful aromatic presence and excellent balance. Aromatic and full-bodied, with magnificent balance, the 2019 will be easy to drink and enjoy while young. Crushed red fruits, blood orange, mint, cinnamon, pomegranate, cedar, and soft floral notes on the nose. This Barolo from L'Altare is a wine of great class.” (Vinous 2023)

Wine rated (2023 guide) 94+/100 (Outstanding wine)

Estate rated "Recommended" (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The 2019 Barolo is a wonderful new release from Elio Altare. Silvia Altare (Elio’s daughter) tells me: “The 2019 vintage was easy to produce, resulting in rich, full-bodied, and powerful wines. The 2018 vintage was lean and the 2017 was hot, but the 2019 is classic.  ” This wine is made from grapes sourced from three villages in Barolo (some from owned vineyards and others from leased ones), and the winemaking was straightforward, with short maceration times and minimal racking, according to Silvia. The result is vinous and fruity, with plump cherries and blackberries on a textured, full-bodied profile. The wine needs a few more years of bottle aging. 2025–2040

About the wine:

Still a bit closed, but already very appealing with its ripe red fruit and a hint of minty oak. Both complex and indulgent. A lovely nose and magnificent, juicy, supple red fruit with plenty of crispness and bite on the finish. Great potential. 2023–2032

About the wine:

A lovely aroma of flowers, cherries, and orange peel. Medium-bodied with firm, refined tannins. Good length. A brilliant finish. Best enjoyed after 2026, but already very appealing.
