About the estate:

Over the past twenty years, Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril have restored the historic vineyard and the château, originally designed by Le Vau, with grounds laid out and designed by Le Nôtre. The estate now covers 250 hectares. It produces wines in eight appellations and two IGPs, including Minervois, Saint-Chinian, Faugères, and Côtes-du-Roussillon, with the same attention to quality as in Cabardès and unwavering consistency. Here, the wines are classic, consistent, endowed with great aromatic richness, excellent freshness, particularly on the high-altitude terroirs, and a flawless balance. A benchmark address that celebrated the 400th anniversary of the Château de Pennautier in 2022.

About the estate:

The Lorgerils own six family estates in Languedoc-Roussillon, including Ch. de Pennautier, a Versailles in Languedoc built in 1620 to the glory of the local lords, treasurers of the States of Languedoc; a sure bet in the Cabardès appellation. Nicolas and Miren de Lorgeril, who represent the tenth generation to run this vast 180-hectare estate, also head up a wine trading business.

About wine:

Cabardès Terroir d'Altitude seduces with its pure fruit and silky mouthfeel. A real treat.

About the estate:

In the Cabardès appellation, in the foothills of the Montagne Noire, Pennautier is a wine monument that Miren and Nicolas de Lorgeril took over some twenty years ago. By adding properties in Saint Chinian, Faugères, La Livinière, and others in Roussillon to the estate, they have developed a wide variety of vintages. On the advice of the Derenoncourt team, Nicolas de Lorgeril practices inspired winemaking, blending grapes from plots of different altitudes and ages in a mille-feuille style. Starting with the 2021 vintage, mastery and precision refine the character of the wines, revealing the elegance of these high-altitude terroirs.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 12/09/2025

Discover this warm and generous vintage with its slightly kirsch-like and spicy red fruit flavors, structured by tight, silky tannins and a fresh texture with slightly chalky accents. Fair price. Still young, this terroir wine will be best enjoyed with autumn dishes, such as Boles de Picolat seasoned with a pinch of red pepper, or more traditionally, beef stew with black olives. Rating = 3.8.
