“A model of harmony and a magnificent expression of the vintage”

“An irresistible charm that earned this vintage the highest rating. The deep color is striking, as is the nose, which unreservedly releases rich aromas of mocha and dark fruits with a hint of mint. Sensual and silky, driven by great freshness and supported by refined tannins, the palate drives the point home with mouth-watering fruit. A model of harmony and a magnificent expression of the vineyard.” (Le Guide Hachette 2024).

About the estate:

Well known for his Château Ollieux Romanis, Pierre Bories acquired Champ des Murailles in 2012, a Corbières-Boutenac estate founded by François des Ligneris, former owner of Château Soutard, a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. Covering some 10 hectares on the western slope of the Pinada massif, this vineyard is characterized by a cooler microclimate than Ch. Ollieux Romanis.

I’m busting the myth. I don’t detect the aroma described on the website—that minty note. On the contrary, I’m getting more of a scent of crushed, mashed, or even stewed fruit, which reminds me of the Brettanomyces in certain wines; it’s as if, in trying too hard to get it right, they’ve distorted this wine and stripped it of its structure.

Wine from Boutenac - Corbières. Deep cherry red with purple hues. On the nose, red fruit, red berries, cherries, and strawberries. Also notes of forest floor and spice. On the palate, those ripe red berries, cherries, and strawberries return. Lovely freshness throughout... from start to finish. An elegant and refined Corbières focused on fruit, with character and substance. Score: 16/20

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on April 29, 2024

Pierre Bories’ legendary flair hits the mark once again with this Corbières-Boutenac of pure beauty, enhanced by bold tannins. The palate is tantalized by a pure, brilliant juice offering a refined, silky texture, imbued with succulent, tangy notes of red cherries, redcurrants, and blackcurrants, infused with delicate spices and hints of oak. Delicately textured, the slender, highly aromatic finish ends with a sensation marked by sensuality. Affordable price. Remarkably crafted, this subtle yet seductive cuvée will be perfect next winter to enhance slow-cooked dishes, such as traditional venison or hare stews served with spaetzli. Rating: 4.3.
