Robert Parker

The Syrah-Grenache blend of Corbières A Tire d'Aile 2018 seems to favor the Syrah side, with peppery aromas and notes of blueberry, garrigue, and crushed stone. From the same region as the Minervois, it appears more complex but in the same style; medium-bodied, supple, ready to drink over the next few years. Like its companion, it's a sure bet! Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Laurent Delaunay set up his winery in Marseillette, a small wine-growing village not far from Carcassonne, and oenologist Vincent Charleux is in charge of it. These two enthusiasts of the Languedoc terroirs combine their talents to select the best plots, vinification methods, blends, and aging techniques. Laurent Delaunay and his wife Catherine, also an oenologist, had already created Les Jamelles in 1991, a range of wines made from remarkable grape varieties. At the end of 2015, they bought the La Métairie d'Alon estate in Limoux with the aim of producing exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines on the beautiful high-altitude terroir of Magrie. The estate covers 25 hectares of organic and biodynamic vineyards, divided into 25 plots, allowing for plot selection and handcrafted cuvées. By the third vintage, their success was already evident. The sunny Pinot Noir cuvée, produced on a north-facing clay plot, is breathtaking. This estate richly deserves a second star!

Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)

About the estate:

Born into a family of Burgundy producers and merchants, Laurent Delaunay, oenologist, after founding Badet Clément & Cie, bought the business established in 1996 by Australian oenologist Nerida Abbott in 2005, creating Abbotts & Delaunay, a wine merchant and producer specializing in wines from the Languedoc-Roussillon region. In 2015, Laurent Delaunay bought the Métairie d'Alon estate and its 25 hectares of organic vineyards from Jean-Louis Denois, a well-known winemaker in Limoux.
