"A wonderful introduction to this delicacy, with a distinctly Mediterranean style"

A brilliant ruby color, a blend of red and black fruits, and a rich, crisp attack. The Syrah, which makes up the majority of the blend, brings structure and spice to a generous palate with well-integrated tannins.

Rated estate (2024 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable vintage, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous one)

About the estate:

Robert Joyeux balanced his career as an industrialist with the extensive renovation of the estate, enabling him to create the Corbières of his dreams—an elegant wine that expresses the complexity and diversity of its terroirs. Since 2011, he and his wife Geneviève have devoted themselves full-time to their estate, and their son Hubert has recently joined them to promote this fine wine around the world. The estate has been certified organic since 2013; the grapes are tended to perfection, and gentle extraction, the absence of any crushing, and gravity-fed processing result in generous yet refined and authentic wines. The Inédite cuvée displays depth and structure, while the exuberant and characterful Cuvée Numéro 1 lives up to its name. We were also charmed by the new La Coume cuvée, which is lively and fresh. The whites and rosés are delicious.

Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

La Cendrillon? A hamlet in Ornaisons, at the foot of the Fontfroide massif, an old inn along the Roman road that connected the Narbonnaise region to Aquitaine. A native of the region, entrepreneur Robert Joyeux took over the family estate in 1993 and spared no expense on investments: new plantings, construction of a winery. Today, 42 hectares have been certified organic since late 2012.

Wine rated (2023 guide) 89/100

Rated: Recommended

About the wine:

The 2020 Corbières Essentielle is cut from the same cloth as the 2019, with a spicy, full-bodied, and peppery character, as well as a round, straightforward, and delicious palate. It is well-balanced, with ripe tannins, and will drink well for 3 or 4 years, or even longer.
