Bettane & Desseauve

This cuvée captures the essence of the mountain garrigue and expresses the richness and exuberance of a sun-drenched terroir. Clean, expressive, and distinctive, blending black berries, garrigue aromas, and hints of licorice, this wine is both crisp and structured, full-bodied and refined, carried by a touch of pleasant freshness. A lovely example of its appellation.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 14/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2017 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, though we are unable to offer a general assessment of the style of its entire range)

About the wine:

Rich and smooth, with very ripe fruit, woody notes, and hints of garrigue, balanced by a fresh finish. Good aging potential.

About the estate:

Acquired by the Sichel family nearly 20 years ago, Château Trillol is beautifully situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees, at an elevation of 400 meters, just outside Cucugnan. Its 40 hectares are planted with Syrah, Grenache, and Carignan—grape varieties that thrive on this exceptional terroir. The vineyard’s high elevation helps preserve great aromatic complexity and a lovely freshness.

Not bad at all, though it lacks a bit of roundness to make it truly extraordinary. A friend complimented it during a tasting when we paired it with a ribeye steak.
