Domaine Pierre Clavel - Cascaille 2016
2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"No fewer than six grape varieties go into this white wine, which was already well-received in the previous vintage: Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Marsanne, and Clairette... and perhaps a touch of a few others, planted on rocky soils of limestone scree. Some bring roundness and richness, others aromatic intensity or liveliness. [...] The result is a wine of rare balance, rich and fresh, with an elegant, long finish: exotic fruits, lime, ripe pear, yellow fruits, and a touch of honey. ” (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2019) The makings of a great Mediterranean white!

About the wine:
No fewer than six grape varieties go into this white wine, which was already well-received in the previous vintage: Roussanne, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, Marsanne, and Clairette... and perhaps a touch of a few others, planted on rocky soil composed of limestone scree. Some contribute roundness and richness, while others bring aromatic intensity or liveliness. Aging in demi-muids or oval concrete tanks is subtle. The result is a wine of rare balance, rich and fresh, with an elegant, long finish: exotic fruits, lime, ripe pear, yellow fruits, and a touch of honey.
About the estate:
Estelle, Pierre, and their sons Antoine and Martin carry on the family legacy in the tradition of Jean Clavel. Their 30-hectare vineyard (certified organic with a biodynamic approach) spans three terroirs: Pic Saint-Loup, Grés de Montpellier, and La Méjanelle. A benchmark in Languedoc winemaking. The nails depicted on the labels serve as a reminder that the Clavels used to manufacture them before devoting themselves entirely to winemaking.
