Rated estate (2019 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)
About the estate:
After a stint at a cooperative, Pierre Quinonero and Murielle Clavier bottled their first vintage in 1998. Located at the foot of the village of Caux, the vineyard features old Carignan vines and ancient Ugni and Clairette vines, some of which are over a century old. The newly planted Grenache and Syrah vines come from mass selections. In the cellar built with the help of friends, the decision to use whole-cluster fermentation with long maceration yields a red, Les Armières (90% Carignan), characterized by robust acidity, with tannins refined in concrete tanks and wooden casks. Eschewing the easy path and aged for an extended period, the small production of white wine is no less original. The demanding style sometimes makes the wines difficult for newcomers to appreciate.

1 bottle in 2018; decanted and then rebottled in the morning for dinner that evening; an explosive nose of red fruit, followed by cherry liqueur (kirsch); a "light" palate with integrated tannins and very light acidity; a very good wine.
