Domaine Magellan
Domaine Magellan, located in Magalas north of Béziers, was founded in 1999 by Bruno Lafon and Sylvie Legros, who discovered a number of plots ideally suited for producing high-quality wine.
Domaine Magellan has 31.5 hectares of vineyards, 29 of which are AOP-certified. The vineyards stretch across the slopes of two hills, each featuring a distinct terroir: the “Pech Redon” terroir (the round hill, composed of Triassic sandstone) and the Villafranchian terroir, consisting of Quaternary terraces typical of the Piscénois region. In the vineyard, it was necessary to rethink cultivation practices and apply best practices: Sylvie and Bruno introduced 100% manual harvesting at Domaine Magellan —a practice that had fallen by the wayside on these superb terroirs—and had the vines certified organic starting in 2010. A new winery was also built—spacious, efficient, and functional: nurturing and respecting the grapes are also part of Magellan’s style, where winemaking is classic and meticulous.
“After 15 years, we have found our truth and are at peace with ourselves. The traditions have come together, merged, and the identity is now established,” say these meticulous and talented winemakers.
