"A fine example of its appellation, offering incredible value for money!"

“Carignan (60%) and Grenache Noir are the stars of this authentic Fitou, featuring lovely notes of red fruit and orange blossom, supple and fresh on the palate. A light, airy wine, best enjoyed while it’s still fruity.” (Le Guide Hachette 2026).

Wine rated (2026 guide) 90/100

Rated estate (2026 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the estate:

Jérôme Bertrand’s dedication and hard work on the fine terroirs of Paziols have made the Bertrand-Bergé estate a model for the entire appellation. The entry-level reds are affordably priced and exceed the quality standards of Fitou. The velvety Jean Sirven cuvée is named after the grandfather, who was already dedicated to quality viticulture at the beginning of the last century. Today, this cuvée stands out among the elite of the South’s greatest wines for its character and depth. An essential destination in Languedoc.

About the wine:

Carignan (60%) and Grenache Noir are the stars of this authentic Fitou, featuring lovely notes of red fruit and orange blossom, with a supple and fresh palate. A light, airy wine, best enjoyed while it’s still fruity.

About the estate:

Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Jean Sirven, who produced his own wine in the late 19th century, Jérôme Bertrand left the cooperative in 1993 to make his own wines. He believed early on in the quality of Fitou’s rugged terroirs, nurtured and promoted the region’s wines, and then elevated his estate (40 hectares) to the ranks of the greats. Since the 2011 harvest, the vineyard has been certified organic.

Rated estate (2026 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Located in Paziols, in the upper part of Fitou, near the Pyrénées-Orientales, this estate has been part of the village for six generations. Jérôme, supported by his sister and his wife Sabine, cultivates some forty hectares, divided into four plots, the main one being La Boulière, a site characterized by a mix of rounded pebbles and crushed limestone. Originally dedicated to reds, this terroir also shines in dry whites. The 1911 cellar is well worth a visit. For those wishing to extend their stay in this wonderful setting, the estate offers vacation rentals as well as 4x4 tours of the vineyards.

Review by Mr. Gilles D. Published on March 25, 2025

Favorite this vintage in the rich and warm 2022 harvest. A perfect balance of depth, surprising freshness, charming smoothness, and a lovely juiciness centered on abundant, crisp fruit, nuanced with hints of spice and smoke, with a slightly rich, velvety, and enveloping texture that provides beautiful body without excessive power. An intensely fruity and deliciously lingering finish. A surprising price for such a well-crafted wine. Immediate pleasure when paired with a beef parmentier, crispy and gratinated with Comté cheese and breadcrumbs, accompanied by a lovely crisp salad. Score = 4.2.
