With its surprising blend of four Spanish grape varieties, this cuvée is dominated by aromas of red and black berries, reminiscent of blueberries and blackberries. The supple attack heralds a full-bodied palate with very silky tannins. Its roundness and volume are complemented by a powerful finish with balanced, minty notes. A red wine you absolutely must try!

Rated estate (2020 guide) 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable wine that lives up to expectations for its appellation(s))

About the estate:

This lovely estate comprises 18 hectares of vineyards divided into small plots located in Bize, in the Causses region of the Minervois—the terroir at the foot of the Montagne Noire—and at the northeastern edge of the appellation. It is an estate that is truly on the rise. The winemaking process focuses on gentler, less aggressive extraction, so the wines gain precision in their fruit expression and a better balance of freshness. As a result, they are enjoyable to drink, rich, and pleasing while retaining the estate’s signature characteristics: tension and vitality. In addition to these Minervois wines, the estate offers a range of particularly well-crafted IGP de l’Aude wines, whose names are, of course, related to that of the estate.

Rated estate (2021 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the estate:

Founded in 2002 by four partners—wine enthusiasts originally from Saumur—Le Loup Blanc produces Minervois wines blended from Languedoc grape varieties. From the outset, vineyard management has focused on organic and biodynamic farming. Each cuvée retains its distinct character: the selection includes wines meant to be enjoyed for their fruitiness, as well as fine wines with aging potential. The estate features two comfortable and tastefully decorated guesthouses.
