Gault & Millau

"It has a fresh nose reminiscent of tangy fruit paste with notes of pepper and sage. The palate is rich, with tight, supple tannins and a spicy finish. A real treat with a sappy structure!" (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2017 - Gault Millau)

Rated estate (2018 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Catherine and Daniel Le Conte des Floris have settled in the Pézenas region. Their white wines, remarkable for their depth, demonstrate the appeal of the Carignan Blanc grape and show how much of a mistake it was to uproot it on a massive scale in Languedoc. The most discerning winemakers in the region are beginning to replant it, a sign of the times. The range of red wines is based on the terroirs where they are grown: Carboniferous, Basaltic, and Villafranchian. In white, Lune Blanche is one of the most original wines in the Languedoc thanks to its white Carignan grape variety. Combined with Roussanne, it becomes Lune-Rousse, and with Marsanne, it becomes Lune-Rouge. Villafranchien Grenache and Syrah on Carboniferous schist cultivate elegance and drinkability. Rated estate (2018 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

In 2000, former journalist Daniel Le Conte des Floris took the plunge and created this small, exciting estate in Pézenas. His Burgundian training is evident in his taste for expressing the terroir, his delicate approach to barrel aging, and, ultimately, in wines that prioritize aromatic complexity and freshness. Word of mouth has made these whites the stars of the Languedoc, pioneers in their intense, precise and delicious style, with a preserved bouquet. The reds are refined, a beautiful trilogy showcasing the terroir with the Villafranchien (Grenache), Carbonifère (Syrah) and Basaltique cuvées. These are wines that sometimes need a year or two of aging to find their feet.

Three out of four bottles were corked... what a shame! It's sad because the only bottle I enjoyed was very good value for money.
