Tour de Pierre is a complex red wine, offering notes of licorice, red berries, pepper, and leather, with a very delicate smoky undertone. A full-bodied Pic Saint-Loup that is fresh and well-balanced on the palate, featuring notes of pepper, licorice, and strawberry… Truly elegant!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2026 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)

About the estate:

The three Ravaille brothers—Jean-Marc, Pierre, and Xavier—are as much at home on Pic Saint-Loup as the three fish depicted on the labels are in the water. They had to change the estate’s historic name, L’Ermitage du Pic Saint-Loup, to avoid competing with the well-known Rhône appellation. The red, Sainte-Agnès, blends the four main Languedoc grape varieties, while the white is half Roussanne. The transition to biodynamics has been underway for several years. Sainte-Agnès consistently stands as the archetype of Pic Saint-Loup reds.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 15/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2026 guide) 2*Stars (These exceptional estates, often boasting fabulous terroirs, are must-haves that, thanks to the consistency and excellence of their wines, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers)

About the wine:

The Tour de Pierres’s restrained, vegetal aroma may put some people off, or at least surprise them. For our part, we appreciate the subtlety of its “green” aromatic notes and the fresh, consistent character of the fruit.

About the estate:

L'Héritage du Pic-Saint-Loup is a historic terroir located on the grounds of the former convent of Château de Montferrand. It was in the 12th century that the first winegrowers first tilled and cultivated these vineyards. This jewel of the appellation, nestled directly against the Pic, is now run by the Ravaille family, to whom we owe, in particular, the introduction of Syrah, which is now the dominant variety in the appellation. The latest generation—Xavier, Pierre, and Jean-Marc—decided in 1992 to leave the cooperative to vinify these beautiful high-altitude vineyards. Rigorous standards in the vineyard, precision in expression, and controlled power are the hallmarks of the estate’s current production, making it a benchmark within the appellation.
