Médaille d'Or

Concours Paris

The Anjou-Villages vintage takes it up a notch, with aromatic intensity centered on peony, ripe red and black fruits, and spices. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a clean attack and good volume. The tannins will mellow with a bit of decanting. A fine example of this appellation’s character at an affordable price!

Hachette Wine Guide

Guide Hachette des vins

Rated estate (2026 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)

About the estate:

Led by the younger generation—Stéphane, Julien, and Vincent Denis, who joined the business in 2003, 2006, and 2009, respectively—this has been a family business since 1920; it started with 5 hectares and now spans 90 hectares. A flagship estate in Haut-Layon, renowned in particular for its red wines, but also highly skilled in producing whites and rosés. A (very) safe bet.

Review by Mr. FRANCOIS J. Posted on June 14, 2020

A huge disappointment—you should buy the red Anjou from this estate but skip the Anjou Villages. This wine leaves a harsh aftertaste and has a flavor that’s far less delicate than the standard Anjou from Le Petit Clocher, which has a lovely character yet is much cheaper than the Villages… Proof that price doesn’t always reflect the quality of the wine.
