Grown on soils composed of hard, unaltered spilite (volcanic rock) in the great terroir of the Coteaux du Layon, the Litus cuvée reveals a complex and elegant nose, evoking notes of vine peach, pear, and distinct citrus and mineral nuances. Beautiful flavors of pear and spices on the palate, roundness and structure, with fine, elegant tannins... A beautifully crafted Anjou!

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2015 guide) Selected (An estate or winery that impressed us with one or more of its wines, but where we are unable to give an overall opinion on the style of the entire range)

About the estate:

Éric Morgat, originally from Layon, produces a Savennières from very low yields, harvested ripe and aged in wood. He sought roundness rather than the incisive character of Chenin on his organically farmed terroir. In recent vintages, there has been a change in style with more straightforward wines. 2010 is a model of its kind in the quest for purity. The Anjou Blanc, from a plot purchased in 2002 in the Pierre Bise area and planted in 2003 on spilite, produces a cuvée litus full of tension.

Rated estate (2016 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the estate:

Born on the south bank, Eric Morgat is now firmly rooted in Savennières. He has built up a rare vineyard, located in prized sites such as La Roche-aux-Moines and a splendid hillside replanted at La Pierre-Bécherelle. The harvest consists of golden Chenin grapes without botrytis, vinified in barrels (20% new), with partial malolactic fermentation. Starting in 2012, the Fidès cuvée replaced the Enclos, whose original plot has since been expanded with different terroirs. The wines achieve a precision and intensity that is unusual for Anjou, thanks to the constant questioning of this perfectionist winemaker, who never stops refining every detail in order to improve. At the top of Savennières, the estate earned its second star last year.
