"Breathtaking! A magnificent Chinon, concentrated and powerful, by Charles Joguet."

"Always reserved in its youth, Le Clos de la Dioterie seems destined for a bright future. The maturity of the Cabernet, the precision of the extraction and its enhancement through aging are in perfect harmony in this distinguished wine, carried by an incredibly elegant tannic structure. It provokes a gentle and persistent salivation. Radiant! Its fullness and finesse already give it an irresistible accessibility." (Le Guide RVF 2024).

Wine rated (2025 guide) 97/100

Rated estate (2025 guide) 4 stars (Producers of very high quality, those who are the pride of French vineyards)

About the estate:

For Anne-Charlotte Genet, the quest for perfectly harmonious tannins without any harshness is the guarantee of wines that are capable of being good when young and good when aged. The result is seductive wines that embody charm, complexity, sensuality, and great refinement. With a rare intelligence in understanding vines and wine, this is Chinon at its very best.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 95/100 (Extraordinary wine)

About wine:

Located near the cellar, this plot represents the estate's historic terroir. It is planted with old vines, aged between 70 and 80 years, and benefits from a northeast orientation. The soil consists of a thick layer of clay covering limestone bedrock, and the plot is usually the last to be harvested, allowing the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. As usual, the 2020 Chinon Clos de la Dioterie has a lively, fresh and complex bouquet of wild black berries, cedar, cherries, spring flowers and spices. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied to full-bodied, pure and precise, supported by powdery tannins and a fleshy, sappy mid-palate, ending with a structured but delicate and mineral finish. It is a magnificent wine and one of the favorites in the Charles Joguet range.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 96/100

Rated estate (2025 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

Always reserved in its youth, Le Clos de la Dioterie seems destined for a bright future. The maturity of the Cabernet, the precision of the extraction and its enhancement through aging are in perfect harmony in this distinguished wine, carried by a tannic structure of incredible elegance. It provokes a gentle and persistent salivation. Radiant! Its fullness and finesse already give it an irresistible accessibility.

About the estate:

Founded in 1957 by Charles Joguet in Sazilly, on the left bank of the Vienne River, this estate has returned to the top of the Chinon appellation, a crowning achievement for the team in charge of winemaking and vineyards, chosen by owner Jacques Genet. They work to a high standard of excellence, given the size of the estate. The winemakers have above all revived a vibrant spirit of freshness in the great Cabernets, which have the originality of being exposed to the northeast. Few estates in the Loire have such essential grand cuvées: Clos de la Dioterie (2 hectares of 80-year-old vines on clay-limestone soils, facing northeast, in Sazilly), Clos du Chêne Vert (2 hectares in the town of Chinon, southwest, steep slope, clay-limestone and flint clay), Les Varennes du Grand Clos (4.5 hectares in Sazilly) aged for eighteen months in barrels then ten months in bottles before release. As for the entry-level vintages, they manage to make Cabernet Franc consensual and refined, without losing the origin of the terroir. This is a great quality! These modern Cabernet Francs, both refined and deep, manage to achieve the feat of retaining their digestibility, as seen in the 2019, 2020, and now 2021 vintages, which are among the most ambitious in the Loire!

Wine rated (2022 guide) 93-95/100

About wine:

Clos de la Dioterie is a northeast-facing vineyard on the left bank of the Vienne River, planted on clay-limestone soil. It is one of the last plots to be harvested. The 2020 barrel sample offers a delicious texture, exuding a fine, chalky grain. Its style is almost creamy and rich, but as it is a Cabernet Franc from the Loire, it retains its elegance and shape. It is a ripe, black fruit style with abundant oak and great length. A scent of tea leaves, smoke, and spices lingers long on the tense and concentrated finish, no doubt thanks to the limestone subsoil.

About wine:

Aromas of red berries, wild herbs, roasted peppers, charred bark, and baking spices. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Plenty of volume on the palate with a velvety texture of berries and sweet spices. Good vitality and harmony with a textured finish. Made from organically grown grapes. Drink now or cellar.
