Bettane & Desseauve

"The 2012 Les Renardières red opens with a wild, peppery Pinot Noir from 45-year-old vines. Similar to some of Austria’s finest Blaufränkisch wines, it offers a rich, fleshy fruitiness with notes of dark berries, cherry, and chocolate. On the palate, the resemblance to a ripe, full-bodied Blaufränkisch persists thanks to its meaty, powerful, yet silky texture. The dark fruit is cut through by lively acidity and intense chocolate flavors. The tannins are fine-grained, and the minerality enhances the drinkability of this excellent Pinot.” (Wine Advocate 2014 - Robert Parker)

Wine rated (2015 guide) 15,5/20 (Very good wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide): 3 stars (High-quality production, setting the standard in its sector)

About the wine:

A lovely, crisp finish with aromatic notes of cherry and a spicy aftertaste.

About the estate:

Philippe Gilbert is a winemaker of great integrity; for the past few vintages, he has been working as naturally as possible. The estate has just opened a wine bar, Le Fluteau, where guests can enjoy wines from the estate as well as those from fellow winemakers.

Wine rated (2015 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)

Rated estate (2016 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)

About the wine:

The 2012 reds offer magnificent, floral, and refined Pinot fruit, with savory tannins; Les Renardières has even more depth, but less immediate charm.

About the estate:

Owner Philippe Gilbert has relied on the guidance of oenologist Jean-Philippe Louis since the estate’s quality revival twelve years ago. It is largely thanks to him that the vineyard was converted to biodynamic farming (Biodyvin certification). The Renardières cuvées are made from the oldest Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc vines. The whites have gained depth and a mineral-driven finish in recent vintages. After a period of pronounced oak influence, the reds have developed finesse without losing their maturity, and are gradually gaining in precision.
