Alphonse Mellot - La Moussière

Alphonse Mellot Sr. is the worthy heir to an illustrious family of wine merchants. In the late 1980s, Alphonse Mellot took a decisive turn and founded Domaine La Moussière in the Sancerre appellation. Passionate and curious, he quickly established it as a leading producer, with fresh, refined, and flawlessly crafted wines such as La Moussière, Génération, Grands-Champs, and La Demoiselle.

The approximately 50-hectare estate, located in the town of Sancerre in the Loire Valley,is now led by the new generation, as Alphonse Mellot Sr. was succeeded a few years ago by his son... Alphonse Junior, the nineteenth of that name, and his daughter Emmanuelle. A brilliant duo that spares no effort to achieve the best: organic and biodynamic vineyard management, harvesting at optimal ripeness, low yields, hand-picking, and precise, rigorous winemaking. Since 2005, Alphonse Mellot Jr. has also managed the Domaine des Pénitents in the IGP Côtes de la Charité, just 35 kilometers from the family’s Sancerre estates. An 18-hectare vineyard planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on limestone with entroque, facing due south, managed according to the same quality standards to produce two IGP-classified cuvées that are every bit as good as those from the main estate.
