Alphonse Mellot - La Moussière

Alphonse Mellot senior is the worthy descendant of an illustrious family of wine merchants. At the end of the 1980s, Alphonse Mellot took a decisive turn and created Domaine La Moussière, in the Sancerre appellation. Passionate and curious, he quickly made it an essential reference, with fresh, refined and perfectly executed vintages such as La Moussière, Génération, Grands-Champs and La Demoiselle.

The approximately 50-hectare estate, located in the commune of Sancerre in the Loire Valley,is now run by the next generation, as Alphonse Mellot Sr. was replaced a few years ago by his son... Alphonse Junior, the nineteenth of that name, and his daughter Emmanuelle. A brilliant duo who stop at nothing to achieve the best: organic and biodynamic viticulture, harvesting at optimal maturity, low yields, manual harvesting, and precise and rigorous vinification. Since 2005, Alphonse Mellot Jr. has also managed the Domaine des Pénitents in the Côtes de la Charité IGP, just 35 kilometers from the family's Sancerre base. An 18-hectare vineyard planted with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on limestone soils, facing south, managed according to the same quality criteria to produce two IGP-classified vintages that are every bit as good as those from the main estate.
