Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Philippe Prieur and his nephew, Luc, continue the work of ten generations in this Verdigny estate. The vines are spread across the caillottes and white soils of Verdigny and Chavignol (notably on the legendary Monts Damnés hillside) and on the flint soils of Thauvenay, near the Loire. These meticulous winemakers do everything possible to refine the definition of their Sauvignons and Pinot Noirs (conversion to organic since 2019, reduction of sulfites in wines, indigenous yeasts for reds, etc.). This approach is reflected in their meticulously crafted, precise wines, which lack the exotic, modern, and boring character found in many of the new generation of Sancerre whites. The "simple" Sancerre is a case in point.
