Rated estate (2023 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing wines of a high standard—you won’t be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

Philippe Prieur and his nephew, Luc, carry on the work of ten generations at this estate in Verdigny. The vineyards are spread across the stony slopes and white soils of Verdigny and Chavignol (notably on the legendary Monts Damnés hillside) and the flinty soils of Thauvenay, near the Loire. These meticulous winemakers spare no effort to refine the character of their Sauvignon Blancs and Pinot Noirs (converted to organic farming since 2019, reduced sulfites in the wines, native yeasts for the reds...). This approach aligns with wines that are refined and precise, lacking the exotic, modern, and boring character found in many whites from the new generation of Sancerre. The “simple” Sancerre is a prime example.
