Château de Bellet
The Barons of Bellet founded the estate in the hills above Nice; their title was granted in 1777 by the King of Sardinia. This family, originally from Savoy, gave its name to the appellation, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2011: one of the oldest A.O.C.s.
Nestled between the Mediterranean and the Alps, Château de Bellet spans 10 hectares of vineyards cultivated using organic farming methods: natural ground cover, organic fertilizers, and meticulous soil management. Similarly, no herbicides or insecticides are used in the vineyard.
The Château de Bellet vineyard is located at an altitude of between 200 and 300 meters and enjoys abundant sunshine (2,700 hours per year). The breeze from the sea and the Alps facilitates the slow ripening process necessary for the freshness and elegance of Château de Bellet’s wines, giving them an almost northern character. The unique soil consists of puddingstone: Pliocene-era pebbles and very light-colored sand interspersed with a few clay veins.
