Domaine de la Gayère
At the helm of Domaine de la Gayère, Christèle Plantevin—the fifth generation of this family-owned estate founded in 1902—currently cultivates 50 hectares of vineyards in Cairanne. This small southern village is located in the Haut Vaucluse, just a stone’s throw from the Enclave des Papes, and harmoniously blends the northern Rhône and its Syrah with the distinctly southern Grenache and Mourvèdre. In 2016, the producers of Côtes-du-Rhône Village Cairanne were granted the Cairanne Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC). Thus, the first vintage produced underthe Cairanne appellationis the 2015 vintage, for both reds and whites.
Half of the vines are over 30 years old, and some are over 65 years old. True to the hallmarks of this region’s wines,Domaine de la Gayère blendsthe traditional grape varieties of Grenache, Carignan, Mourvèdre, and Syrah to give the red wines of the Côtes du Rhône and Cairanne appellations their richness and distinct character. The estate’s white wines are produced in limited quantities and are blends of Clairette and Bourboulenc.
