Domaine Richaud - Cairanne L'Ebrescade 2023

The younger generation—Claire, Thomas, and, more recently, Édith, the youngest—is brilliantly carrying on the work of their father Marcel, an iconic figure of the Cairanne appellation. While honoring their heritage, they are injecting new energy into the estate, marked in particular by the acquisition of an additional 20 hectares, part of which borders the famous Ebrescades parcel. The wines, consistently of remarkable quality, are becoming even more refined and precise in their expression. More precise aromatically and more refined in texture, they now combine depth and immediacy in an increasingly accomplished balance.

Deep in color, it offers a very intense and lively nose of licorice and violet. On the palate, it is full-bodied, rich, and velvety, with intensely flavorful aromas of black cherry and blackberry. It is rich in ripe tannins and has lovely acidity. The alcohol content is quite high, but that’s the price you pay for such expressive, ripe, and delicious dark fruit! The tannins are firm, reminiscent of blackberry skin.

The 2023 Ebrescade has aromas of black fruit marmalade with hints of cream and rum-soaked grapes. Despite its exceptionally supple tannins, this wine will need time to let its richness unfold.

This iconic estate has been brilliantly managed since 2014 by Claire and Thomas Richaud. They have brought their own artistic sensibility while preserving the estate’s spirit, blending rich maturity with freshness. The craftsmanship behind these high-alcohol wines is truly admirable: each cuvée embodies its terroir and displays aromas of magnificent refinement. Over the past several vintages, these wines have gained even more finesse without losing any depth—they stand at the pinnacle of the southern Rhône.

A complex and powerful nose offering numerous nuances, with aromas of licorice and blackberry—so expressive! Concentrated black fruit, accompanied by fine, velvety tannins that coat the palate, along with a superb texture; an explosion of black fruit carries through to the finish. Long on the palate and perfectly balanced—a true delight.

A deep nose with aromas of black berries, black plums, baking spices, and hints of tar. Medium- to full-bodied, this wine features fine tannins and a lovely fruit-forward richness, with a generous character and a long, savory, peppery finish.
