Rating: Gault Millau 16/20
"This is a complex wine that opens with aromas of beautifully ripe red fruits (raspberry, cherry, blackberry), supported by smoky and spicy notes. The palate is full-bodied and dense, with expressive yet elegant tannins. A long finish for a lovely wine with aging potential." (Les Meilleurs Vins de France 2012 - Gault Millau). Mourvèdre and Grenache (hence its name?) are equally prominent in this cuvée: the former contributes its typical cocoa aromas and structure, while the latter adds notes of red fruit and fullness. The overall impression is straightforward, rich, complex, and uncompromising. A remarkable wine—a true exercise in style!

Sustainable agriculture: grass-covered plots, organic fertilizers as needed, green harvesting to better control yields

Grape Harvest

manual

Winemaking

25 days of vatting after simple destemming, fermentation at a controlled temperature (29–31°C)

12 months in new barrels (20%) and a wine from the Grands Crus Classés (Smith Haut-Lafitte, Pape Clément)

Eye

beautiful garnet-colored dress

Nose

blends the red berry flavors (ripe raspberry) of Grenache with the cocoa notes typical of old-vine Mourvèdre

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Rated estate (2012 guide): 3*Stars (Very high-quality production)

About the estate:

“Luc Baudet had the audacity to settle in this region, which is still strongly influenced by the cooperative. Deeply attached to the Costières de Nîmes, he made his home at Mas Neuf. The richness of the terroirs allows him to offer three types of cuvée: Rhône Paradox, focused on the freshness and purity of the fruit; Compostelle, the result of careful selection from old vines, as well as grapes from the best plots; and finally Armonio, born from a collaboration with Louis Mitjavile (of Tertre Roteboeuf in Saint-Émilion, among others).”
