"A wine you never get tired of"

“Rich and fragrant with a wide range of aromas, from summer flowers to licorice and black pepper. Rich, deep, and well-structured, this great Côte-Rôtie has everything we look for in this famous appellation. A very long finish with remarkable tannins, violet notes, and stony minerality. Astonishing depth for just 12.5% alcohol! Enjoy now, but best served starting in 2025.” (James Suckling 2023) • Please note: quantities are very limited.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Winery rated 1*Star (A high-quality, recommendable production that lives up to what one would expect from its appellation(s))

About the estate:

This estate has some lovely vineyards in the Côte Blonde area, including one on the Goutay, near their home, but their best wine comes from Les Rochains, on the schist soils near La Landonne. The production still lacks consistency, but the style is authentic, bearing the hallmark of whole-cluster fermentation. The 2017 vintage showed great character this year.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 94/100

Rated winery (2023 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

The nose still shows some closed-off character, but not to a problematic degree at this stage. The medium-bodied fruit, which coats the palate, is very fresh and well-balanced. The tannins are more succulent than in most 2021 wines, and with its fine, lively acidity and moderate alcohol, this wine shows great promise and should be excellent if the reduction resolves during aging. The rating assumes that this will be the case. Sourced from four specific vineyard sites and 25-year-old vines in the Côte Blonde, aged for 21 months in barrels of varying sizes and ages.

Rated estate (2024 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the estate:

The Garon wines beautifully highlight the diversity of the Côte-Rôtie terroirs. We are captivated by the estate’s winemaking style, which stands out for its refined texture. The fruit is well-defined, and the aging profiles gain depth depending on the terroir and the estate’s skill in managing oak. Among the various cuvées, La Sybarine reflects the character of the granitic soils; Les Triotes, located on the Côte Blonde next to Lancement, is made from schist; and Les Rochins is produced on the brown schist of the Côte Brune.
