Domaine Garon - Côte Rôtie La Triote 2022

This estate has some lovely vineyards in the Côte Blonde area, including one on the Goutay, near their home, but their best wine comes from Les Rochains, on the schist soils near La Landonne. The production still lacks consistency, but the style is authentic, bearing the hallmark of whole-cluster fermentation. The 2017 vintage showed great character this year.

Made from grapes grown in the La Triote vineyard, located in the Côte Brune area, the 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Triote offers aromas of dark wild berries, blackberries, spices, pepper, and smoke. Medium-bodied, linear, and dense, this is a perfectly balanced and structured Côte-Rôtie with velvety tannins, enhanced by a long and delicate finish. Fermented with 25% whole clusters, this classic wine was aged for 18 months in barrels (50% new).

The Garon wines beautifully highlight the diversity of the Côte-Rôtie terroirs. We are captivated by the estate’s winemaking style, which stands out for its refined texture. The fruit is well-defined, and the aging profiles gain depth depending on the terroirs and the estate’s skill in managing oak. Among the various cuvées, La Sybarine reflects the character of the granitic soils; Les Triotes, located on the Côte Blonde next to Lancement, is made from schist; and Les Rochins is crafted from the brown schist of the Côte Brune.

The 2022 Côte-Rôtie La Triote opens with intense notes of wood smoke, dried meat, licorice, and ripe black cherries. A hint of pencil shavings adds another layer of complexity. Concentrated and round, the 2022 is a precise and intense La Triote that finishes with a spicy aftertaste.

A full-bodied, textured, and dense 100% Syrah. It features notes of black fruit, herbs, and warm spices, with medium body and creamy tannins. Precise and velvety on the palate. Full-bodied and dense, it is balanced and harmonious. Generous yet restrained, with a concentrated and lingering finish.
