Château de la Selve

In 2002, Benoît Chazallon, a recent graduate of the Beaune wine school, took over the family vineyard and began restructuring it, with "the daily ambition of producing lively wines of great finesse and freshness, a pure expression of our terroirs." A true gem, the natural environment of the site reveals great potential for wine production, with sunshine, cool nights, wild landscapes, limestone soils, garrigue, humus, truffles, and more. To allow the terroir to express itself, Benoit Chazallon believes it is essential to preserve the living organisms in the soil, which has required organic and biodynamic farming of the vines since 2002. This work has paid off, as he was named Discovery of the Year in 2012 at the Trophées du Vin awards organized by the Revue des Vins de France, which recognizes professionals in the wine industry every year.

Château de la Selve produces five different grape varieties on 38 hectares of vineyards in the Coteaux de l'Ardèche PGI: Grenache, Cinsault, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon for red wines, and Viognier for white wines. The focus is above all on the balance and vitality of the soil to allow the terroir to express itself, and a choice of controlled yields between 25 and 45 hectoliters per hectare allows for greater concentration in the wines.
