“Blackcurrant, graphite, ground pepper, blackberries, and a pronounced minerality come through fully in the 2024 Saint-Joseph La Sensonne, a medium-bodied to full-bodied wine that offers a pure, complex, and incredibly graceful palate, with exceptional length. Beautifully crafted, this 2024 vintage is another resounding success for this estate and is undoubtedly among the best wines of this vintage.” (Jeb Dunnuck 2026)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2024 guide): 3*Stars (High-quality production that serves as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Jérôme Coursodon heads one of the renowned estates in Mauves. The Saint-Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) differ from those further north, around Sarras, even though they are all produced on granitic soils. The estate’s reds are often more fully developed than its whites.

Wine rated (2025 guide) 93/100
Rated winery (2022 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
On the nose, aromas of cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves dominate, with woody notes. On the palate, it is round, ripe, concentrated yet fresh—very impressive. The fruit is ripe enough to harmonize with the oak, and the finish is fresh and long. It will take a long time for the oak to integrate, but this wine will be excellent with age. It will seem very oaky if you drink it young. Old vines, destemmed, aged in 100% new oak barrels.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated estate (2024 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer’s wines regularly receive awards from the guide)
About the estate:
Established for four generations in Mauves, the birthplace of the Saint-Joseph appellation, Pierre Coursodon, the father, and Jérôme, the son—who took over in 1999—manage 17 hectares of vineyards dedicated exclusively to Saint-Joseph, primarily the red variety. For many years, the estate’s wines have been featured in the Guide’s selections: displaying rare consistency, they are regular recipients of stars and Favorites designations.

Rated estate (2022 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or high-quality winemakers producing wines of a good standard—you won’t be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
The Coursodon family has been in the wine business since the late 19th century. The estate owns vineyards in the renowned regions of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol, and Glun. The white wines display a lovely character, without excessive oak. As for the reds, L’Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, we found the most recent vintages to be overly assertive, with very pronounced oak notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to drink. We regret having to deduct one star from the estate’s rating.

Rated winery (2023 guide) Recommended
About the wine:
A decidedly full-bodied and rich nose, with notes of toasted fat and sweet flowers. The palate is juicy and well-defined, with well-integrated oak that supports the tannic structure; it is juicy, complex, and very well-balanced. Beautiful fruit concentration. Enticing.
