“A great bottle to cell from this exceptional vintage. The intensity of the fruit, combined with the spicy finish, makes this a great, well-rounded wine.” (Bettane & Desseauve Wine Guide 2019) The southern character, particularly evident on the nose with notes of black fruit and garrigue, is light and not at all heavy. Surprising, this wine—both powerful and elegant—offers a velvety, balanced palate that finishes with a fresh, minty aftertaste. A superb discovery: this off-the-beaten-path Ventoux, brilliantly crafted by Patrick Chêne.

About the estate:

Mont Ventoux marks a new chapter in the professional lives of Laurence and Patrick Chêne. This labor of love, which began some twenty years ago, is based in an 18th-century farmhouse at the foot of this famous mountain in the Vaucluse. With deep-seated convictions and unwavering faith, this couple—passionate about rural life and Provence—has revived the region’s native grape varieties, which had been all too quickly abandoned. Century-old vines, a winery that honors tradition while embracing innovation, guided by the discerning eye of Jérome Bressy: the result is evident in the glass—relevant and insightful across four vintages. In addition to the usual varieties, a touch of Cinsault and the delicate Counoise round out a successful blend, aged in cement and wood.
