Ventoux
The Ventoux appellation was granted AOC status in 1973, marking the culmination of several centuries of heritage and tradition in viticulture. In 2008, the current appellation replaced that of Côtes-du-Ventoux, without significantly altering its character. The appellation’s geographical area extends mainly south of Mont Ventoux and the Dentelles de Montmirail, passing through the Monts du Vaucluse and reaching as far as Cavalon.
Located within a site designated a “Biosphere Reserve” by UNESCO in 1990, the terroir benefits from this rich environment.

The soil of the Ventoux appellation consists of limestone deposits, a mixture of sand and ochre-colored clay, and limestone boulders and scree from the mountain. Combined with the Mediterranean climate and microclimatic influences linked to the variation of valleys, mountains, and plains, the terroir of Mont Ventoux allows for a variety of nuances in the wines.

Primarily red in color, though rosés and, more rarely, white wines are also available for purchase, Ventoux wines are mainly produced from the grape varieties Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, and Carignan. Ventoux reds are characterized primarily by their suppleness and the richness of their aromas. The wines offered by estates such as Xavier Vins, Château Unang, Domaine de la Brunely, and the Terra Ventoux cellars account for the growing reputation of the Ventoux appellation.
