"an extraordinary brilliance" (RVF)

The 2011 Côtes du Roussillon Villages Muntada offers deep and complex notes of wild herbs, blackcurrant, tar, licorice, sage, and leather on the nose. There is no embellishment here, and what you get is the pure essence of Roussillon. Aged for 30 months in a combination of large and small barrels, it is full-bodied and rich, still very concentrated and taut, with a firm structure. It will benefit from 2 to 3 years of bottle aging to round out, and will have more than 20 years, if not more, of longevity. (Wine Advocate 2014) • Please note: limited quantities available.

Wine rated (2014 guide) 19/20 (Exceptional wine)

Rated estate (2024 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About wine:

Muntada 2011 goes further in its floral dimension, carried by a myriad of small, flavorful tannins, whose fleshy and lively sap releases an extraordinary brilliance.

About the estate:

Since his beginnings in the mid-1980s, Gérard Gauby has been an inspiring, demanding, and passionate winemaker. His vines are cultivated with love and respect for the plants and the ecosystem. He has revealed to the world the complexity and potential of the Calce terroir with its limestone and ferruginous schist soils. The winemaker has also successfully evolved his style towards less mature, purer and more airy wines. Accompanied by his son, he continues this quest, with his vintages gaining in expression and deliciousness. The whites are very straightforward, with superb longevity and controlled aging. The reds are pure and deep. The 2021 vintage is reaching new heights in both colors.

Disappointed by this wine. A significant lack of expressiveness compared to other wines from Roussillon.
