"The Verdaguer family—true 'Macabeu enthusiasts'—demonstrate that they also have a talent for red wines under the guidance of their daughter Delphine, an oenologist. Here is an admirable blend of half Grenache and half Mourvèdre. The color is crystal-clear, with vibrant violet hues. The complex nose combines the wild character of Mourvèdre with notes of stewed red fruits, garrigue, and spices, particularly pepper. Aromas of tapenade, black fruits, garrigue again, and pencil lead accompany a perfectly balanced palate that is at once full-bodied, round, and very fresh, supported by firm, high-quality tannins. » (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2016)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2020 guide): 2 stars (A solid, recommendable wine, though slightly more consistent and uniform than the previous vintage)
About the estate:
Brigitte Verdaguer and her husband Jean-Hubert, specialists in timeless amber sweet wines, passionately cultivate the twenty or so hectares of this estate located in the town of Latour-de-France. The plots are plowed using a horse. Today, their daughter Delphine is taking over the reins, and we are following this transition closely. As their estate is the oldest private winery in the village, the amber Rivesaltes wines are always on hand, aging in ancient, time-worn casks. You’ll still find very old bottles there, dating back as far as the 1940s. A priceless treasure for any wine lover.

About the wine:
The Verdaguers, who are “mad about Macabeu,” demonstrate that they also have a talent for red wines under the guidance of their daughter Delphine, an oenologist. Here is an admirable blend of half Grenache and half Mourvèdre. The color is crystal-clear, with vibrant purple highlights.
About the estate:
Brigitte and Jean-Hubert Verdaguer have been running the family estate (now 17 hectares of organic vineyards) located in the heart of the village of Latour-de-France since 1989. Since its founding in 1920, this estate has focused on naturally sweet wines aged for extended periods in oak, particularly Rivesaltes, although at the turn of the century, it began producing dry wines, both AOC and IGP. Another flagship product of the winemakers is the dry Rancio, an IGP wine.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 15,5/20 (Good wine)
Rated estate (2020 guide) Selected (Please note that this guide is a ranking, and as such, all the estates listed here—even those without a star—represent, in our view, the pinnacle of French winemaking.)
About the wine:
Els Petits Raims 2013 is a red wine whose bold fruitiness and straightforward flavors really hit the mark.
About the estate:
This historic estate in the Agly Valley is now run by Jean-Hubert Verdaguer and his wife Brigitte, who have been joined by their eldest daughter Delphine since 2006. In 2001, the Verdaguer family expanded their portfolio to include a range of dry wines alongside their Vieux Rivesaltes, the flagship of the estate’s production. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, the work is carried out with great care. While the red wines are of a high standard, it is above all the admirable natural sweet wines (including a collection of old vintages dating back to 1919) that ensure this estate’s reputation. A benchmark estate that deserves the full attention of wine lovers, indispensable for the historical significance of its wines, which stand out with the greatest panache as a testament to the uniqueness of Catalonia’s winemaking history.

A nice, full-bodied, robust wine that pairs well with spicy dishes, beef stew, and the like.

A disappointment. When I tasted it, I didn't find any of the characteristics described in the tasting notes. It's a good wine, but nothing special.

A powerful, very spicy wine. I was a little disappointed because I didn't detect any notes of garrigue, and it lacks finesse. It's all spices and black olives. Average value for money.
