Bugey Cerdon
Cerdon, or more precisely Bugey-Cerdon, is a French sparkling rosé wine produced in the Bugey region in ten communes around Cerdon, in the Ain department.
It's a low-alcohol (8°C/vol) sparkling rosé. It is made from Gamay and Poulsard grapes using the ancestral method.
The vines are planted on steep, south-east-facing hillsides, reaching heights of up to 300 metres. A dozen communes share a highly fragmented vineyard, covering a total of 136.4 hectares: l'Abergement-de-Varey, Bohas-Meyriat-Rignat, Boyeux-Saint-Jérôme, Cerdon, Jujurieux, Mérignat, Poncin, Saint-Alban, Saint-Jean-le-Vieux, and Saint-Martin-du-Mont.
Two grape varieties are used to produce Cerdon: Poulsard, a red variety, and Gamay. They produce sparkling rosé wines of great finesse, which take on an onion-peel color and a delicate perfume with age.
It is a geographical denomination within the Bugey appellation d'origine contrôlée, which was promoted to appellation d'origine contrôlée by the INAO on May 28, 2009, and then to appellation d'origine protégée under the influence of the European Union.
